The Sebastian Foundation donates new community kitchen for the Country Women’s Association of NSW
5 November 2014
The Sebastian Foundation – Guy and Jules Sebastian’s family charity – has today announced its latest project, building a community kitchen for the Country Women’s Association (C.W.A) of NSW.
The kitchen, which was generously donated by Freedom Kitchens and The Sebastian Foundation, will be built at the C.W.A Gunnedah Branch. The Gunnedah Branch has 43 proud members ranging in age from 40 to 90 who service a population of almost 8,000 by producing meals and catering for community groups including the Red Cross, Meals On Wheels and for rural workers affected by drought and other hardship.
The Doreen Baker Community Kitchen will be opened on Friday 5 December in Gunnedah at a special high tea fundraiser hosted by Jules Sebastian. The kitchen has been named in memory of C.W.A Gunnedah member Doreen Baker who collated and published an entire cookbook of recipes from her community despite being completely blind.
“Food is definitely an integral part of our family and I have so much respect for the work these ladies do by cooking so selflessly for their community and using food as a way to show their love and care,” said Guy Sebastian.
“We are grateful for the generous support shown to us by Freedom Kitchens by helping us make this next project happen, I just hope Jules brings back some scones,” he added.
Tanya Cameron, State President of the Country Women’s Association of NSW, said: “One of the aims of the C.W.A NSW is to bring all women and families together to form a community network and we’re grateful that The Sebastian Foundation is helping support one of our branches and acknowledging the great work that all of our ladies do.”
Tracy Smedley, Marketing Director of Freedom Kitchens said “We are incredibly proud of this project and for the opportunity to work with The Sebastian Foundation and assist the C.W.A. We hope that the ladies and community of Gunnedah get many years of use from the functional and beautiful new kitchen.”
